The tropical jungle area around Chitwan is famous for its diverse flora & fauna including endangered mammalian species like the tiger, rhino, elephant, the gangetic dolphins, and the reptile like the Gharial Crocodiles. The area has been preserved as the Chitwan National Park. The Park not only home to rare & endangered species but is also among the world’s selected few the Elephant and Gharial Breeding Centers. However, these days increasing poaching activities and human settlements in the area are having negative impacts to the flora & fauna of the region. On the one hand, the people in the region need development opportunities including tourism, on the other hand there is a worldwide concern for the conservation of the rare & endangered wild species. Hence, the Nepal Government regulates the movement inside the area so as to reap the maximum benefit for the local inhabitants, and enjoyment for the visitors, while at the same time minimizing the adverse impact of human activities to the wildlife in the area. Thus, all visitors are expected obtain a permit by paying entrance fee that goes for the conservation projects in the Park, and observe certain rules and conditions inside the park. Chitwan Park Permit & Regulations: For Foreign Nationals: NRs. 500 For SAARC Nationals: NRs. 200 For Nepali Citizens: NRs. 20 - Walking within the Park between sunset and sunrise is prohibited.
- Purchasing animal or plant products is illegal.
- Rubbish must be disposed of in designated areas, and non-biodegradable items like plastic bangs & bottles should be taken back by the visitors.
